Bilstein B12 Pro Kit vs Old Man Emu 40mm Suspension — Which One Is Right for Your Suzuki Jimny?

If you've decided to upgrade your Jimny's suspension, you've already made the right decision. The stock suspension on the 2019+ five-door Jimny was engineered for a global market — cautious, comfortable enough, but not optimised for either serious off road performance or the quality daily driving experience this platform is genuinely capable of.

Two kits dominate the serious conversation in India: the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit and the Old Man Emu 40mm Nitrocharger Plus Lift Kit. Both are legitimate, high quality upgrades. Both are available at Swastik Fabs in Bangalore. But they are not the same thing, they don't target the same owner, and choosing the wrong one will leave you disappointed.

Here is an honest comparison.

The Bilstein B12 Pro Kit — German Precision for the Road

The Bilstein B12 Pro Kit combines four Bilstein B6 monotube shock absorbers with Eibach coil springs — two of the most respected names in performance suspension engineering, paired together and validated as a complete system.

The kit provides 20-25mm of lift front and rear — modest by off road standards, but meaningful for ground clearance improvement without dramatically altering the Jimny's handling characteristics.

It comes with four B6 shocks and four Eibach springs. Two best brands in one suspension — Made in Germany, with German TÜV certification. The TÜV certification matters because it means the kit has been tested and validated in real traffic conditions — uphill, downhill, cornering, wet and icy surfaces. This is not a performance claim. It is a safety standard.

Who this is for:

The Bilstein B12 is for the Jimny owner who drives 80-90% of the time on road, wants a meaningful improvement over stock handling and ride quality, values German engineering precision, and does occasional mild off road — gravel roads, farm tracks, light trails. If your Jimny is primarily a city and highway vehicle that sees the occasional weekend adventure, the B12 delivers exactly what you need at a price that makes sense.

What it doesn't do:

The B12 is not engineered for serious off road use. The 20-25mm lift is insufficient for fitting larger tyres, running heavy accessories like bull bars and winches without geometry correction, or tackling rock, deep mud or serious trail terrain. If your build is going off road regularly, this kit will limit you.

The Old Man Emu 40mm Nitrocharger Plus — Trail Ready, Fully Equipped

Old Man Emu has been building suspension for serious 4WD use since 1976. ARB acquired the brand in 1988 and has continued developing and testing every product in Australian conditions — some of the harshest terrain on earth. The 40mm Nitrocharger Plus kit for the 2019+ Jimny is the result of that experience applied to one of India's most popular trail vehicles.

The 40mm lift is the first significant difference. At twice the lift of the Bilstein B12, the OME kit provides meaningful additional ground clearance, allows for larger tyre fitment, and dramatically increases approach, departure and breakover angles for genuine trail use.

The Nitrocharger Sport shocks are nitrogen-charged monotube units specifically tuned for the Jimny's weight, suspension geometry, and expected use cases. The springs are manufactured from micro-alloyed spring steel, double scragged and shot peened to enhance spring life and provide superior resistance to sagging and corrosion, ensuring consistent ride height and load carrying capacity.

What makes this kit genuinely comprehensive — and where it justifies the price difference over the Bilstein — is what's included beyond the shocks and springs. Our Swastik Fabs OME kit for the Jimny 2019+ includes:

Crossmember replacement kit — The stock Jimny crossmember contacts the front driveshaft at full droop with 40mm of additional suspension travel. The replacement crossmember eliminates this contact and is essential for safe operation after a lift of this magnitude.

Panhard bracket kit — Lifts the Panhard rod mounting point to maintain correct axle centreing after the lift, improving ride quality and preventing uneven tyre wear.

Brake extension and shock mount kit — Maintains correct brake line position and prevents rear shock to coil contact, both of which are compromised at stock geometry with a 40mm lift.

Caster alignment kit — Restores correct caster angle after lifting. Caster angle directly affects steering feel, straight-line stability, and handling. Getting this wrong produces a Jimny that wanders on the highway and fights the driver on trails. The OME caster kit brings it back to where it should be.

Every one of these components is included in the kit at Swastik Fabs. You are not buying a lift and then discovering you need ₹20,000 of additional geometry correction parts. It is a complete system.

Who this is for:

The OME 40mm kit is for the Jimny owner who bought the vehicle for what it is — a serious, capable, go-anywhere platform. If you plan to fit a bull bar, a winch, a roof rack, bigger tyres, or regularly drive on trails, forest roads, river crossings or any terrain that demands actual off road capability, this is the only kit that makes sense. It is also the correct kit for any Jimny running significant accessories at the front, because the trim packers allow spring rate adjustment to account for the additional nose weight.

The Honest Verdict — Which One Should You Buy?

This is a question we answer every week at Swastik Fabs. Here is our honest position:

Buy the Bilstein B12 if your Jimny is a daily driver with occasional weekend adventures, you prioritise on-road handling and ride quality, and your build is lightweight — no heavy bumpers, no winch, no roof rack.

Buy the OME 40mm if you bought a Jimny to actually use it off road, you're planning any accessories that add front or rear weight, you want to fit larger tyres, or you simply want the best suspension the 2019+ Jimny platform can accept without major modification. At ₹30,000 more than the Bilstein, the OME kit includes geometry correction hardware that you would need to buy separately anyway on any serious build. The effective price difference for a complete, properly set up install is smaller than the headline numbers suggest — and the capability difference is enormous.

At Swastik Fabs we fit both. But if a customer asks us what we'd put on our own Jimny, the answer is the OME 40mm every time.

FAQ

Can I fit the OME 40mm kit without the crossmember replacement? We strongly advise against it. Without the crossmember replacement, the front driveshaft contacts the crossmember at full suspension droop, which causes accelerated wear and can cause driveshaft failure on trail. The crossmember kit is included in our price for exactly this reason.

Does the Bilstein B12 require any additional geometry correction? At 20-25mm of lift, the geometry change is modest enough that the B12 does not require the additional correction hardware needed for the 40mm OME kit. This is one reason the B12 is a better fit for road-biased builds.

Which kit is better for a Jimny with a bull bar and winch? The OME 40mm without question. The additional front weight from a steel bull bar and winch requires the stiffer spring rate and load-carrying capability of the OME setup. The Bilstein B12 is not rated for this type of nose-heavy build.

Can I fit larger tyres with either kit? The OME 40mm provides sufficient lift for 215/75R15 or 235/75R15 tyres with appropriate wheel offset. The Bilstein B12 at 20-25mm is marginal for tyre upsizing and may require additional modification.

Do both kits come with a warranty? Yes. Bilstein and OME are both premium brands with manufacturer warranties. Swastik Fabs is an authorised dealer for both — warranties are fully valid on kits purchased through us.

Is professional fitting required? Yes for both. Suspension work on a 4WD, particularly with geometry correction components, requires specialist equipment and knowledge. Our Bangalore workshop fits both kits.
